KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Performance Engineer will use data and problem solving skills to provide recommendations regarding availability, reliability, and technical performance of the standalone storage fleet. They will analyze issues that impact performance and/or market availability of the fleet and work with the Project Operations and Technology teams to correct.

The ideal candidate has the ability to learn battery energy storage system (BESS) functionality and identify performance issues using a data-driven approach.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Analyze BESS operational performance and operational data to identify performance improvement opportunities
2. Identify statistical anomalies in operating assets
3. Build long term reliability models, such as battery cell degradation and predictive maintenance analytics
4. Work with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), 3rd party engineers, and KCE Site Operations team to conduct RCA of technical issues and propose resolutions
5. Collaborate with SCADA and database engineers to pull in data needed for analysis
6. Report on operational availability and performance

WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS

1. 3-7 years professional experience, preferably in renewable energy or related field OR motivated recent graduate
2. Experience in data analytics
3. Bachelors or Master’s degree in engineering, computer science, or other quantitative related field
4. Experience working with electrical and mechanical systems preferred
5. Experience using SQL or similar to extract data for analysis
6. Exposure to programming (Python, R, Matlab, or similar) a plus
7. Very motivated self-starter
8. Strong organizational and time-management skills
